REMEMBERING JUNE GILLERT May she walk the moors on sunnier days. Joining the group a year after she moved to the area in 1988, June Gillert passed away before Christmas. She was 63. Her son James was with her. June’s wry asides were delivered deadpan but it soon became apparent that the slyer her comments, the more she liked you. She would not appreciate sentimentality in recollection, saving her affection for her Irish wolfhound Pilot. The two of them could often be seen striding along the clifftops that line the Hope Valley. Those of us who knew her well will remember the value she found in being a member of the Association, her tireless energy, and her sharp and incisive eye. James plans a joint exhibit of their work, and says June left a variety of pieces that she never shared during her lifetime that he believes include her finest paintings. |
